Be inspired planning your activities in October with our aesthetically crafted free October 2024 calendars collection. I always consider October planning as a time to reflect on my progress toward my annual goals. While it’s true that self-reflection is not a one-time activity, but rather a continuing process, I usually delve deeper into it in October being the start of the last quarter of the year.
The first day of October is when I go early to my favourite artisan coffee shop armed with my coloured pens, post-it notes, and calendar. I then go through all my activities which I listed at the beginning of the year, checking the goals that are on-track and already accomplished, while planning remedial actions for those I feel I may not be able to meet. All these, while enjoying the cold breeze and poetic surroundings of autumn.
As you run down your listed activities, I hope you’re on track to achieve whatever goals you’ve set. At SlideDad, we offer not only calendars, planners, and templates, but also tips on how to elevate your planning to enhance your personal, professional, and/or entrepreneurial journey. Therefore, before scrolling down to our October calendar collection (which is likely the reason why you’re visiting this page), check out our tips on mastering goal tracking and reflection process at the bottom of the page.

How to Track and Reflect on Your Goals Using Your Calendar
Effective goal tracking and reflection are key to achieving your goals and maintaining motivation throughout the year. Using your calendar as a tool can streamline this process, allowing you to organize, review, and adjust your goals efficiently. Thus, before you plan your activities this month using our free October calendar collection, check the steps below for tips on how to leverage your calendar to stay on top of your goals and reflect on your progress.
- Explore Your Goals
Run through the goals that you’ve set for the year. To help in your reflection, categorize each goal according to various aspects of your life, such as career, relationships, health, and personal development. If you were able to break your goals into measurable smaller sub-goals at the beginning of the year, it will facilitate the process.
Ask yourself, which among the goals I’ve set for each category have I already achieved? To work on this, you need to think about why you wrote such goals in the first place. What does success in achieving a particular goal looks like? By dissecting your goals and the corresponding desired outcomes, you’ll be able to identify those you’ve already achieved and those that require further work.
An important aspect of the goal-reflection process is celebrating your achievements. Thus, take time to savour the progress and appreciate the time, resources, and energy you put into being successful. This will reinforce positive habits and behaviours making it easier for you to stay on track moving forward. Whether treating yourself with a reward or simply taking a moment to pat your back and be happy while looking back, it’s essential to acknowledge your hard work and dedication along the way. - Conduct a Reality Check
Think about where you are now relative towards your set goals and their timeframe. Of course, no one is perfect, thus, you should anticipate headwinds and mistakes on your way towards achieving your goals. Setbacks and obstacles are a natural part of the goal-setting process and acknowledging them as such, help maintain a realistic perspective on goal achievement. It will also help us to stay focused and motivated even when confronted with issues and challenges. Thus, rather than as hindrances, consider obstacles and failures as opportunities for growth and learning.
A crucial component in the reality check exercise is to identify and clearly define the issues that prevent success. This could be in the form or resources, habits, time constraints, motivation etc. Clearly defining the challenges will help in developing targeted strategies to overcome them later on. Remember to stay focused on the process rather than the end results alone. - Consider Available Options
Considering the obstacles and hindrances you have identified in the reality check exercise, think about measures to overcome them. Identify the reasons why you were not able to address them initially. Are there better available options to overcome them? Weigh the costs and benefits of each available option.
However, if you’re still having a hard time deciding on which goals to prioritize or which activities to pursue, consider discussing them with someone who would be directly affected by them. If you’re married, for instance, discuss it with your better half not only for feedback but also for buy-in. This is especially useful if you’re pursuing a life-changing decision such as those related to finances, career or health. - Identify Next Steps
Update your calendar with the next steps needed to achieve your remaining goals and continue progressing on those that are on track. Prioritize your goals and create an action plan by breaking down each goal into smaller tasks, and schedule these tasks on your calendar. In addition, follow the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) principles in writing your goals. Remember, however, that not all goals are measurable (i.e. be happier or be more confident). For these types of goals, be creative in identifying ways to measure your progress such as using leading indicators. Lastly, identify the resources and other requirements for each step and mark these on your calendar to facilitate action. By planning ahead, you’ll make the first steps of your journey smoother and more manageable.
October FAQs
October comes from the Latin and Greek word ‘Octo,’ which means eight, as it was originally the 8th month of the year in the old Romulus calendar (750 BC). October retained its name even after the Romans added the months of January and February to the calendar, which pushed it to its current position as the 10th month.
October birth stars are either Libra, born between September 23rd and October 22nd, or Scorpio, born between October 23rd and November 21st. Libras are said to value harmony and diplomacy and are known for being intelligent and kind, while Scorpios value trust and honesty and are known for being intense yet imaginative.
Halloween is celebrated on October 31st due to the merging of ancient Celtic traditions (modern day Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, France and England, Isle of Man) and Christian practices. The origins of Halloween date back to the Celtic festival of Samhain, which was held on the night of October 31st. The Celts believed that this was the time when the boundary between the living and the dead became blurred, allowing spirits to roam the earth. They celebrated with bonfires and costumes to ward off these spirits.
When Christianity spread to Celtic lands, the Church aimed to replace pagan festivals with Christian holidays. In the 8th century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1st as All Saints’ Day, a day to honor saints and martyrs. The evening before, October 31st, became known as All Hallows’ Eve, eventually shortened to Halloween. This blend of Celtic and Christian traditions led to the modern celebration of Halloween on October 31st.
October has 2 birth flowers: cosmos and marigold. Cosmos represents joy and peace while marigold is said to symbol tranquility, grace and grief.
